About This Course

1. Course will cover most of Chapter P and Chapter 1 through 5 of Demana & Waites
2. Recurrent Courses Themes are
• Functions (linear, quadratic, polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, trigonometric) and their behavior (domain, range, zeros, asymptotes, symmetry, local max and mins, "end" behavior)
• Understanding mathematics and being able to explain why something is true
3. Solving Problems
• algebraically and supporting the solution graphically and numerically
• graphically or numerically and confirming the solution algebraically
• graphically or numerically if there is no other way possible
4. Stress will be on Algebraic, Numerical, Graphical and Verbal solutions.
5. Polya's Four Step Approach to Problem solving
• Understand the problem
• Develop a mathematical model
• Solve the mathematical model and confirm or support the solution
• Interpret the solution
6. Learning how to learn mathematics
