Fenway Park

Since 1912 the Boston Red Sox have called Fenway Park home. The oldest existing ballpark in the major leagues, Fenway has seen its share of triumph and tragedy, from the early glory days in the first two decades of the twentieth century to the beginnings of the Curse of the Bambino, following the sale of Babe Ruth in 1920. From the Impossible Dream in 1967 to Pudge Fisk's homerun in the 1976 World Series the Red Sox faithful wait for a World Series championship that has eluded the franchise since World War I (that would be 1918).

I went down last summer for a game against my beloved Detroit Tigers, a game which I am proud to say the Tigers won. Here are some pictures from that game.

Pesky's Pole

Fenway Park is noted for the Green Monster in left field with a distance somewhere around 315 feet from the plate. The right field corner is even closer at 302, but then it sweeps out to a much deeper distance. The foul pole is known as Pesky's Pole because light-hitting infielder Johnny Pesky, once won a game by hitting a homerun that wrapped around the pole.
