Round Robin - Rotating Play
|
||||||||||||||||||
| Always use an even number of teams. When you have an odd number of teams, add a bye team to make the count an even number. Start with team one. List the first half of the teams down one column and the second half up the next column. This will be the pairing for the first round. Keep team one in the same position and rotate the other teams counterclockwise or clockwise one position. Once committed to a rotation direction DO NOT CHANGE. Keep all rotations in the same direction as the first rotation. Except for team one, all the teams will be in a new position and all the teams (including team one) will have a new opponent. This will be the pairing for the next round. Repeat the process until team one has played all the other teams. | ||||||||||||||||||
| Example: Nine or ten-team schedule | ||||||||||||||||||
| Game | Rnd (1) | Rnd (2) | Rnd (3) | Rnd (4) | Rnd (5) | Rnd (6) | Rnd (7) | Rnd (8) | Rnd (9) | |||||||||
| 1 | 1* | 10 | 1* | 9 | 1* | 8 | 1* | 7 | 1* | 6 | 1* | 5 | 1* | 4 | 1* | 3 | 1* | 2 |
| 2 | 2 | 9 | 10 | 8 | 9 | 7 | 8 | 6 | 7 | 5 | 6 | 4 | 5 | 3 | 4 | 2 | 3 | 10 |
| 3 | 3 | 8 | 2 | 7 | 10 | 6 | 9 | 5 | 8 | 4 | 7 | 3 | 6 | 2 | 5 | 10 | 4 | 9 |

| 5 | 5 | 6 | 4 | 5 | 3 | 4 | 2 | 3 | 10 | 2 | 9 | 10 | 8 | 9 | 7 | 8 | 6 | 7 |
| You do not have to play (or number) the rounds in the order they are generated. You can rearrange and renumber the rounds without damage to the schedule. In this rearranged example the original position from above is noted in parentheses. | ||||||||||||||||||

Room Assignment - Rotation
The room assignment and rotation is done in the same way as the schedule. Its' simplicity may make it difficult to catch. Here the room cell that corresponds to the game cell above. It gives the location of a game. In this example teams five and six ( highlighted above) play in room three the ninth (last) round (also highlighted). |
||||||||||||||||||
| Game | rooms rd 1 | rooms rd 2 | rooms rd 3 | rooms rd 4 | rooms rd 5 | rooms rd 6 | rooms rd 7 | rooms rd 8 | Rooms Rd 9 | |||||||||
| 1 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | |||||||||
| 2 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | |||||||||
| 3 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 1 | |||||||||
| 4 | 4 | 5 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 1 | 2 | |||||||||
| 5 | 5 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 1 | 2 | 3 | |||||||||
| Just like the pairing schedule you can rearrange the rounds without causing a room conflict. Here the example would put teams five and six ( the same highlighted teams ) playing a game in room five the ninth (last) round ( highlighted below ). | ||||||||||||||||||
| Game | room | room | room | room | room | room | room | room | Room | |||||||||
| 1 | 2 | 4 | 1 | 3 | 4 | 2 | 5 | 3 | 1 | |||||||||
| 2 | 3 | 5 | 2 | 4 | 5 | 3 | 1 | 4 | 2 | |||||||||
| 3 | 4 | 1 | 3 | 5 | 1 | 4 | 2 | 5 | 3 | |||||||||
| 4 | 5 | 2 | 4 | 1 | 2 | 5 | 3 | 1 | 4 | |||||||||
| 5 | 1 | 3 | 5 | 2 | 3 | 1 | 4 | 2 | 5 | |||||||||
